About Us

Let's start the story with the two of us girls daydreaming about owning our own dessert store. Wendy who studied Food Science at Auckland Uni had a love for ice cream and was at the time working for Frucor Suntory in the Quality Assurance team. Li-Yen who was studying patisserie at the time at AUT loved to bake and was working part time in other cafes in Auckland.

On Christmas Day in 2017 we decided to sit down and put our dream down on to paper. After numerous planning sessions, delicious research trips to cafes and bakeries, hundreds and thousands of recipe trialling, productive team meetings at bars (Dr Rudi's is where we came up with our name!), Wen and Yen was born.

We started doing markets around Auckland first selling ice cream sandwiches. We would bake all night and day and then go and sell at the markets after work/school and on the weekends. After 6 months of juggling markets with our other commitments we decided to go all in with Wen and Yen and open a store. So off we both went to quit our jobs, gather all our savings and opened our bakery!

At Wen and Yen we pride ourselves on our handcrafted baked goods. Everything we sell at our shop is all handmade by us with love. Our donuts are the star of the show - made fresh everyday, hand rolled and filled with our own house-made toppings. Our ability to innovate has allowed us to create one of the best gluten free and vegan donuts in town.

Beyond just making yummy food, our store has created a fun place for locals to come to for their daily Flight Coffee, taste new food (if you are lucky and come when we are testing new recipes you can take part in our blind tasting) and to just have a good yarn. We love how our store has created so much joy for not just us but everyone around us and we hope to keep spreading this happiness through our food.
